2012 Commit: Blake Lucas

(2012 Commit Blake Lewis/ProKicker.com)

Blake Lucas, a kicker from Bleckley High School in Georgia, committed to UMass as a preferred walk-on for next season, according to Kohl’s Professional Camps.

Coach Molnar spoke early of not making offers to any kickers this offseason, and this commit doesn’t necessary change that. As a preferred walk-on, Lucas will have the chance to earn a scholarship by outperforming the four kickers currently on UMass’ roster. By the looks of things, it sounds like this kid is pretty decent.

According to ProKicker.com, here are Lucas’ senior stats: 86% touchbacks, 100% (29/29) extra points, 47 yard long field goal, 7/9 field goals under 45 yards, 7/13 overall.

He was also a top performer at the Chris Sailer Kicking Camp.

At the very least, Lucas is very good on kickoffs, aside from his impressive touchback percentage, Lucas also won the National Camp Series Head to Head Kickoff Tournament last year.

His name is incorrect in a couple of places referred to as “Lewis”

  2. Andy says:

Glad to see they’re attempting to shore up the kicking game, because missed XP’s, FG’s and horribly short kickoffs have really hurt us. Hope this kid makes a lasting impression.
