According to Big County Preps’ Kyle Bennett, UMass has shown interest in Shug Oyegunle, an athlete from Gaither High School in Tampa.
Bennett added that Oyegunle is also getting interest from South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Iowa State and Ball State. Rivals confirms this list.
The guys over at Big County Preps call Oyegunle “Mr. McEverything,” presumably since he pretty much played every skill position on the field for Gaither last season.
Oyegunle is 5’11 and 175 pounds, and looks like he could play slot receiver at the next level. His highlight video shows a kid with decent speed and a lot of shiftiness. However, he doesn’t look like a dancer – Oyegunle appears to have no problem with head-on contact.
Big County Preps also had him as a nominee for Player of the Year:
Speed, speed and oh yeah, more speed is how Oyegunle has put Gaither back in the postseason after a long absence. Without him, Gaither likely would be forced into a one dimensional offense with the seasons weight on fellow quarterback Alex McGough’s shoulders. Luckily for him, Shug has another year to go.
Here is Bennett’s tweet about UMass’ interest:
