2014 Recruit Rohan Blackwood/tampabay.com
The UMass/Nature Coast High School relationship just got a little tighter.
The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that UMass made a verbal offer to 2014 recruit Rohan Blackwood, a football athlete who is also a highly touted basketball player. The Times got the news from Rob Kazmier, an assistant football coach for Nature Coast. Some Maroon Musket readers may remember Kazmier from the recruiting update on Matt Breida I wrote last week.
That makes three athletes that UMass has offered at Nature Coast: Tyler Bergantino in basketball, and Blackwood and Kazmier in football.
According to the Times, Allen Suber – who has been relentless in Florida the past few weeks – made the verbal offer. Derek Kellogg may want to take a look at this kid, too. Apparently, Blackwood is also one of the top 50 power forwards for the class of 2014.
There isn’t too much out there about Blackwood as a football player, but Kazmier tweeted that he has the size and athleticism to play defensive end. It sounds like he also plays quarterback and other positions. Blackwood also has some natural selling points (he’s 6’5 and almost 200 pounds).
Also from Coach Kazmier on twitter:
#UMass is coming hard down here. I love it!! Breida (2013 RB) and Blackwood are both very excited about their offer. @suber_umassfb
