Anthony Averett, a highly regarded athlete from New Jersey, has given a solid verbal commitment to Alabama, according to a tweet from Scout’s Brian Dohn.
Rivals confirms the news.
UMass offered Averett a scholarship back when Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia, Temple, South Florida and East Carolina were the only schools involved.
By our count, Averett is the third recruit that UMass has lost to a top-flight program: Isaac McDonald committed to Clemson, and Rashad Kinlaw chose Notre Dame.
Here is Dohn’s tweet:
Just spoke to Woodbury (NJ) High CB and new #Bama commit Anthony Averett. He is pumped. Story to come shortly. mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=14&f…
