Recruiting: Gillins, Lane, Kemp

UMass has extended an offer to DJ Gillins, a Jacksonville-based dual-threat quarterback who may be one of best in the 2014 class.

The Minutemen are the first to offer Gillins, according to Scout, Rivals and 247 Sports. It sounds like UMass made the offer on May 14.

According to 247 Sports, Gillins may be “an early contender for tops at his position nationally.” The 6’3, 185 pounds quarterback threw for 2,667 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2011. The article mentions that some major programs – including  Penn State, West Virginia and Arkansas – are showing interest in Gillins.

247 Sports also indicated that Gillins is a four-star recruit and Auburn visited him recently.

The Minutemen also offered Marquion Lane and Jojo Kemp, two athletes from DeLand, Fl., according to Kyle Bennett from Big County Preps.

Lane, a 6’2 175-pounds athlete, has offers from 15 different FBS programs, according to Rivals. Check out his hudl highlights here.
