UMass Recruiting: O’Neal, Harrison, Knight

(2013 Recruit Dantwaun O'Neal/Orlando Sentinel)

Dantwaun O’Neal, a big receiver from Deland, Fl., picked up a UMass offer.

The news comes via Brendan Sonnone, a reporter from the Orlando Sentinel, who mentioned the offer on Twitter:

Rivals confirms the offer and has South Alabama and Florida International offering. O’Neal also has a Scout profile, but it’s not up to date. According to an interview with Silver Bullet Recruiting, a blog covering Ohio State football recruiting, O’Neal wouldn’t mind being a Buckeye.

O’Neal is the third DeLand athlete to pick up an offer from UMass – joining Jojo Kemp and Marquion Lane. It sounds like O’Neal has flown under the radar due to his team’s run-based offense. According to a Sentinel article, O’Neal had just over 200 yards receiving this past year, but his size (6’3, 200 pounds) and athleticism is drawing interest from colleges across the country.

Check out his highlights here. I would advise turning down the volume.

UMass is making an early push for a 2014 Florida athlete already holding serious BCS offers. According to the Kathleen Football Twitter account, the Minutemen have made an offer to Javon Harrison, an athlete with offers from Virginia Tech and Michigan. This kid looks pretty legit and equally apt to play in the secondary or as a wide receiver.

Check out his highlights here.

According to TCPalm, the newspaper chain covering the Treasure Coast and my hometown of Vero Beach, Fl., UMass has offered Josh Knight, a wide receiver from Fort Pierce Central. TCPalm broke the news on Twitter.

Knight has offers from FIU, Memphis, USF, WKU, according to the Palm Beach Post. Rivals’ list is a bit more extensive.

Agreed. And I’ll just add this painful reminder that when the “Colonial Clash” drew about 32K and 24K respectively, about half those numbers were from New Hampshire, so if they don’t start marketing the hell out of this real soon it’s going to make Coach Molnar’s speeches look like all bark and no bite.

Memorial Day is a week away, season starts in about a 100 days…Coach Molnar wants a full stadium…no marketing in EMass to date…you will need to sell about 600 tix a day to reach 60k or 250 a day to reach 25k- do something! It will be harder to get interest once the newness fades.

I hear ya Bob. I hope UMass starts “saturating the market” like Molnar said at the UMass Club.
