The UMass football team added some power to its 2013 recruiting class this past weekend.
The Minutemen received verbal commitments from Steven Casali, a grinding running back from New York, and Sha-ki Holines, a linebacker from Springfield Commerce.
Casali announced the commitment on Twitter:

We have been high on Casali from the start. The 6’2, 220-pound linebacker/running back has a bruising, downhill running style that could be utilized on either side of the ball or special teams. The kid looked like a man among boys last season, and I have little doubt that he will be ready for FBS ball when his time comes.
Casali will appeal to UMass fans who have gotten used to the likes of Steve Baylark and Jonathan Hernandez. He is a powerful kid and will fit somewhere within Molnar’s system.
The Minutemen now have three commitments for the 2013 season:
- Steven Casali RB/LB
- Sha-ki Holines LB/DE
- Todd Stafford QB
UMass also held a football camp at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, and more than 200 athletes showed up. We know that Casali was one of the recruits at camp.
Pat McCann, an assistant coach for Stonehill College, was at the camp and snapped this photo:
A few recruits were tweeting about the event, and it generally sounds like the camp was well organized and had good competition. A few of the high-level recruits were at Boston College’s camp this weekend as well and spend one day at B.C. and the other at Gillette.
