Somehow, through the magic of fuzzy math and misbehaven football programs, UMass could actually play in a bowl game this season. According to CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd, the increased number of bowl bans is forcing the NCAA to make changes to its bowl eligibility rules. I was on I-93 North this morning, listening to some Creedence Clearwater Revival and trying to shake off the celebratory cobwebs from the night before. Theo Agnew, a defensive tackle who played in 22 games during the past two years for UMass, is transferring to Georgia State, according to Panther Talk, a Georgia State blog. Agnew wasn’t on the spring roster and didn’t participate in the Spring Game. He had 66 tackles during his time as a Minuteman. It’s unclear why Agnew decided to transfer, but it is safe to assume that playing time was a factor. Agnew would have likely been behind both Charles Thompson and Kevin Byrne on the depth chart.
