Some way-too-early recruiting rankings are out, and UMass is doing pretty well.
Rivals has a list of the top recruiting classes in the country, and so far UMass is tied at No. 72 with Iowa State and Kansas. Scout has UMass in the same position.
Full Disclosure: Rivals is pretty far behind and only has seven of UMass’ 12 recruits listed. Scout is even further behind – its list is based on five commitments.
According to Rivals’ list, UMass is ahead of some pretty impressive teams, including: Kansas State, Purdue and Minnesota. Scout has UMass in front of UConn. Interestingly enough, the Minutemen are No. 2 in the MAC, behind only Central Michigan.
I’ll be interested to see where UMass ranks once Rivals and Scout catch up.
Speaking of which, ESPN has the most up-to-date list of UMass’ recruits.
They must have some pretty good sites bookmarked.

Interesting comment by DJ Woods the Ft Lauderdale WR recruit. “I’m going
to make people forget about Victor Cruz!”It’s on the UMass Scout.com Insider
under forums.
42 days until season kickoff, how’s that operation 50k going? The post July 4 marketing blitz has really sparked interest in the Boston area-NOT.Extremely disappointed in UMASS selling this new venture, it will be much harder next year when fans just look at 2012 W-L record. #Lost opportunity. On a good note, the coaching staff and Maroon Musket are top notch.
I agree with you Bob. I keep looking for the billboards during my daily ride from Watertown to Braintree.
Love the blog, but calling Minnesota impressive? 3-9 last year, with a loss to an FCS opponent NoDak State (granted, those guys won the NCAAs, but still)…
Haha – it’s more because they’re a Big 10 team.
Thanks for summary, Bob. Nice to see that the UMass program is hitting the ground running even before its transitional season in FBS is underway.
