With all the news about scheduling, recruiting, coaching and stadium updates, it’s pretty simple for something to get lost in the mix.
It’s easy to forget that the UMass football team is going to be in a video game for the first time since 2005.
Way back then EA Sports had 70 I-AA teams, and clever gamers could put UMass in whatever conference (Big East) they wanted. Of course, the team was stuck in video game McGuirk, which was almost as bad as regular McGuirk, but I think I remember virtual indoor plumbing.
After that the NCAA Football series dropped I-AA teams, and fans of UMass were stuck playing with their “other” favorite team (Colorado for me). A few years later, Internet-savvy fans gained the ability to upload their version of UMass. This was kind of cool, but it just wasn’t the same. Also, some UMass fans created such ridiculous teams (See: Kyle Havens with 99 Speed) that the game wasn’t that much fun.
Now UMass is back, and my goodness they are going to be horrendous. By all accounts, the Minutemen are going to be the absolute worst team in the game at a dismal 60 overall. So, much like in real life, UMass is going to take some lumps. I’ll take it though – I’d rather play with a bad UMass than a good Colorado any day.
There have been some spoilers out there already, so shield your eyes if you want to find out for yourself: the team is playing in UMass Stadium, there is no Fight Mass, the game gives a shout-out to the Power and Class, and the Minutemen have the Aquafresh stripe on their helmet (damnit).
I’m going to get the game tomorrow and see the rest for myself. I’m debating whether to start a franchise or become a UMass legend in Road to Glory.
Either way, I’m just glad I have the option.

Anyone find a good roster download for ps3? Would love one with a good umass roster, rather than what I am finding in my own (no freshmen, no hafiz Williams, no Deion walker, etc..)
I just got it. Working on making the UMass roster as realistic as possible from names to gear. I plan on naming all the MAC rosters (to get to know some of the players) and possibly all the big teams. I won’t be able to finish them for a week or two, but I will try to figure out a way to upload them online if any UMass fan is interested in having it.
I have a roster file that I got from someone already, ahs most of the teams done. Not UMass though so I started doing that before I got bleary eyed last night. I will make ita available for download soon, and you can do youras as well very easily. When I get home I can walk thru the steps and post it here if you want.
By the way, Played online last night as UMass vs some guy as Syracuse. I played great dee but couldn’t score. Damn spread offense is not my style, I need to work on it, find some go-to plays.

Nah. It will be like the old quote (about Bear Bryant I think): He can take his and beat your’s or he can take your’s and beat his.
It’s going to be aggravating if the team comes up with new uniforms, which Charley told Bob was in the works, and not have them in the game. Maybe there will be a download for them, also, I hope the MAC logo is on the jersey… It could be worse though, EA admitted they flat out forgot to add South Alabama to the game.
Funny thing about South Alabama … since EA Sports forgot about them, they are making it up to them by making their team and stadium as legit as possible next year.
