Game Week: Prediction Time

About 11 years ago, I was a high school football player down in Florida. I spent my afternoons and early evenings fighting off mosquitoes, heat and the humbling reality that neither me nor my team were very good at football. Our team was slow, we had no depth, and our only saving grace was the fact that we were too dumb to know how outrageously talented every other team in our division was. We lost, a lot, by a lot – to almost everyone. The first game of the year had us against Glades Day – a traditional football powerhouse that, [...]

Meanwhile, Matt Sparks, the true freshman from [...]

According to Harry Plumer, freshman Blake Lucas will be UMass’ placekicker against UConn, while incumbent Brendon Levengood will kick off, and Jeff Strait will punt. Lucas is a Georgia native who committed to UMass as a preferred walk-on in March. The new kicking breakdown leaves a number of reported newcomers out in the cold. During this past off season, the Minutemen added  Colter Johnson (transfer), Jeremy Stinson(preferred walk-on), and Ian Maltz (unclear whether he committed as a scholarship athlete or a preferred walk-on), and Lucas. This may mean that [...]
