Recruiting News: 2014 Pennsylvania Targets

(2014 Recruit J.T. Blyden/247 Sports)

UMass is making an early push for a pair of 2014 Pennsylvania recruits.

According to Scout’s Brian Dohn, UMass offered J.T. Blyden, a running back based out of West Grove, Pa. Blyden is also holding an offer from Rutgers and has drawn interest from several big-time schools, according to Rivals.

According to 247 Sports, Blyden went to a Penn State camp in June.

As a sophomore, Blyden ran for more than 1,000 yards and had 12 touchdowns. The 5’11, 190-pound athlete also plays strong safety.

Steven Barsamian, who handles some recruiting work for David Schuman’s National Underclassmen, tweeted that Dashawn Darden, a quarterback from Springfield, Pa., paid a visit to UMass.

247 Sports indicates that Darden is a dual-threat quarterback who has drawn interest from Georgia Tech. During an interview with Scout, Darden said that Syracuse has sent “a lot of letters” and came to his school to visit. He also said that he was going to visit camps at Temple and Rutgers. There is no indication that he has picked up an offer from anywhere, yet.

NOTES: Matt Vautour covered UConn’s media day, and it sounds like the Huskies are interested in playing UMass with more frequency. … Harry Plumer had another practice update, and once again quarterback Kellen Pagel was on the sidelines. Vautour said the same on Twitter. … Plumer’s article also mentioned that UMass will scrimmage on Saturday, but it will be closed to media and the public. One would assume that the first scrimmage would shed some light on who will take the ball if Pagel can’t.
