Molnar Using Ohio’s Success To Inspire His Team

Charley Molnar

From CBSBostonSports.com – The UMass Minutemen fell to 0-4 last weekend but made positive strides in a 27-16 loss to Miami (Ohio). Head coach Charley Molnar told 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Marc Bertrand the fact that it was the closest loss of the year for UMass only makes it more frustrating, but he said there were some positives to take from the game. One was running back Michael Cox, who rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns, and another was Kassan Mesiah, who had a sack in the opening series and finished the game with 10 tackles.

“I really believed he was going to be a really good football player down the road,” Molnar said of Messiah. “I just didn’t expect him to come out and get a sack on the second play of the game. He played beyond my expctations, to be frank.”

After watching Ohio beat Penn State I’d offer this assessment of this weeks opponent is pretty accurate.

This is a real blue collar team that works hard and does the little things to be successful really well. They also exhibit good ball control and keep penalties to a minimum.

For those that think our team is undersized take agood look at Ohio and who plays the most for them. They have more than a few that do not fit the “regular” heights n weights to be expected of a top 25 D1 team but they all make plays and they play well as a team.

Sure height n weight is important but not as important as heart and desire.

Our team is getting better each week and a team like Ohio is what we want to become in the next few seasons.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.
