According to the UMass football page on Facebook, the team will be having a meeting for athletes interested in walking on. I can’t remember seeing this type of thing openly published in the past.
I’m interested to see who makes the cut.

I remember this happening as far back as 2000- I have a friend that successfully walked on and made the scout team then. What do you find odd? The timing? Same time every season- when the undergrads get back in the fall.
I read hoops and see the outcry, I don’t understand why… We have scored 6 points, let up 82, missed an extra point and a field goal so far. We ain’t that good right now fellas, we need to use anything that can help us.
At first I thought this was a prank, figuring someone hacked a Facebook page. But it seems very real, and very strange. Maybe they’re hoping to find that one kid who plays intramural basketball who always wanted to be a placekicker?
Really wondering why this is being done now?
Two games into the season n apparently looking for players? Really really odd.
Honestly most salmon’s start out on scout team. Most are trying to earn their way onto roster then onto travel n special teams n go from there. But doing this at this time of the year is really curious.
Would also offer it seemed that when looking at the roster now listed on the team website that all of the players listed were not on the sideline. What was worse was that players who will likely be back from injuries or could help other players were not on the sidelines either.
Maybe this is the way this staff wants it but it sure is curious – at the least.
