Game Week: What Vegas Says

(Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch leads the Huskies in passing and rushing/The Mac Daily)

After being completely outclassed by Vanderbilt, the UMass football team is the biggest underdog in FBS football this weekend against Northern Illinois.

The Minutemen are 36- to 35-point dogs and deservedly so.

The Huskies are 8-1 and one of the best teams in the MAC. Last weekend Northern Illinois dropped 48 points on a Western Michigan defense that completely baffled the Minutemen. While the Huskies’ defense has its issues, the Minutemen have been unable to get anything going against anyone over the course of the last month.

Also, just to put things in perspective: Jordan Lynch, Northern Illinois’ starting quarterback, has more yards of offense (3169) than UMass’ entire team (2144).

Things could get messy out there.

Lets not lick the Huskies popsicles yet boys. I watched their entire game against a horrible Akron team (let’s just say money was involved) and I was not impressed. In an alternate universe where I am the defensive coordinator I would sell out against the run, even against 4-5 receiver sets. I also would tell my DEs and LBs that on zone read plays their QB keeps the ball 99.9% of the time. And when he drops back to pass he tucks it and runs 90% of the time. Make him throw it, he hates to do it and is not overly accurate.

This post goes out to the players.

    Had enough?

Time is here to stand up n play UMass football. That means tough run to the ball knock tacklers away from the ballcarrier protect the Qb at all times football.

Many have done it before n you all can do it now.

Time to stand up n fight.

Would like to see AJ get the snaps in practice and get a start. Maybe he’s better, maybe he’s not. Lets get the chance to find out.

36 point underdogs, and it would be pretty hard to argue against it. I’m just not seeing any offensive firepower with this team. The D plays pretty well but gets worn down by lengthy opponent’s drives. When I was watching the Vandy game I was thinking that the opening Vandy drive was going on for a long time, and just as I had that thought the announcer says “seems like Vanderbilt has had the ball for about two weeks now!”.
