(UMass released this image of the new facility to be added to McGuirk Alumni Stadium/UMass Athletics)
UMass has released an updated image of the new football facility, which will be added to McGuirk Alumni Stadium. The new rendering is far more detailed than the computer-generated images shown a few months ago:

Here is a different angle of what the new facility is going to look like (again, this is an earlier, and less detailed, rendering):

Here’s the original artist’s rendering that surfaced when plans to upgrade McGuirk were first made public:

The new facility will have a weight room, meeting rooms, a locker room and house the football offices. It is slated to be completed in July 2014. Part of the overall upgrade will include a new press box.
Perkins and Will, an architecture firm, is designing the facility. Check out some of their work here.

LETTERS FROM DONORS $$$$ HITS HOME W/ SWAMMY
I mentioned it on another post, but UMass could make some money off signing day. Set up the UMass Club in Boston with a live stream of the introduction of the class, have sign up sheets for season tickets, donor sheets, anything. It’s a Wednesday night at 6pm I believe at ABC in Amherst, if they are really trying to hit up the “250k alumni living in the Boston area” for some donations they need to keep us involved somehow. I know I would go, gets me out of the house and into a bar with guys talking about UMass football/sports.
LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN FOR FBS QUALITY BATHROOMS?
I mean we can do that, but I’d be just as happy with some sort of trough running under the stands that I could pee in. The ladies can us the south endzone bathrooms.
That is the problem at UMASS. At most D1 schools their alums write checks for athletics, not letters!! UMASS alumni-stop being so dam cheap.
Point taken. But what do you think prompted Swamy’s recent statement? A bunch of letters and emails or a couple big donations?
I donate, but unfortunately that amount of money I am able to donate probably doesn’t even cover two hours of labor for a plumber. If I win the mega millions though, be ready for some new bathrooms dedicated to me.
Good first step, but I definitely need new bathrooms. My bladder got spoiled at Gillette this year with only having to walk a few feet.
Your bladder has a few more years (at least) to enjoy those bathrooms!
And beer sales in the stadium. (Although, you’d be amazed how easy it was to sneak beer into Gillette. Almost as easy as sneaking beer into McGuirk.)
One more reason why I do0n’t like Gilette or you people that need beer to fuel your “enthusiasm” for football! I got damn sick of your having to get up for a beer, having to get up to eliminate it, having to get up for another, ad infinitum ….. stupid me, I thought you were coming here for a football game!
Don’t worry, I purposely requested aisle seats so that I didn’t bother anyone. And I never leave during play. I try to get all the drinking in during the tailgate. The beer inside is too expensive.
Oh please, get over yourself.
That is aimed at Tkozy by the way, I should have bee a little clearer.
haha Understood.
I like the artist rendering much better. Has that “Boyden Gym” look to it. The new design looks like it should house an art museum.
Thank goodness the federal government covers my tuition, I would hate to be paying for this
Modular design to allow for 2nd decks when the program hits it big time! Heh heh heh.
Now all we need is are Division I bathrooms.
Current bathroom are Division 4, if Bathroom divisions went down that low.
This looks like a typical MAC stadium, particularly later-era ones (Akron comes to mind). I guess that’s how it’s supposed to look?
I agree with you completely. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to look that that, so to speak, but it’s definitely an improvement.
The building looks nice, but the stadium stays the same
Still don’t know why they can’t build a new pressbox on top of a freestanding new deck (on the pressbox side) with 5000 additional seats.
