Cole Ormsby, a defensive end from Windsor High School in Connecticut who committed to UMass back in June, has flipped to UConn.
The news comes from the Hartford Courant. Ormsby told the Courant that UConn presented “a big opportunity that I couldn’t turn down.”
Ormsby is the second recruit to switch from UMass to UConn. Sha’ki Holines, a tweener defensive end/linebacker that verballed to UMass, made the switch in late August. Since committing to UConn, Holines’ ranking has improved to three stars on Rivals. I’m interested to see if the same happens with Ormsby.
With Ormsby’s decommitment, UMass only has one pure defensive end committed: Peter Angeh.
Here is the updated list of recruits who remain verbally committed:
- Todd Stafford, QB: Greenwich HS (Conn)

They have a defensive end. Huber is going to grow into one. Kid isn’t a linebacker. Most people think he’s a defensive tackle and I think that’s going way too far, but I could see him being a solid defensive end.
Problem solved.
The fact that we are battling uconn for recruits is a good thing for Umass. Not so good for uconn. I would think it is tough for all the MAC schools to hold on to these recruits as the bigger conference schools try and fill up their available scholarships.
The good news is that they are identifying good players with potential who are under the radar. The bad news is that they will lose a couple when their stock rises. Hopefully they steal a couple from other schools. This is I guess the nature of the recruiting beast.
the conn is getting deperate and nervous re: umass and local recruiting battles
wonder how much they caved to convince cole to leave umass….
Big weekend for recruiting, let’s hope we get a couple commits over the weekend! Go UMass!
Yet another one bites the dust!
Bummer. It had been reported that UConn had been following him since November. He’ll most likely never see the field for UConn, so we might get him back as a transfer at some point.
I’m interested to see if they actually use him as a DE. With that three-man front, I could see him switching to a LB spot.
No defensive coordinator and their head coach is going to get fired next year. Good luck with that.
