UMass Commit: Logan Laurent

Logan Laurent, a kicker/punter from New Hampshire, has committed to UMass.

Laurent broke the news on his Twitter page:

Laurent spoke to ESPN a few months back and said that New Hampshire was the only school to extend an offer. Dartmouth, North Carolina, Elon and East Carolina were also involved at that time. The Maroon Musket has learned that Laurent will be a preferred walk-on for UMass.

The 6’3 and 210-pound kicker told SeacoastOnline that kicking is his strength. According the the article, Laurent “attempt[s] kicks in the mid-to-high 40s with plenty of leg and accuracy.” Roger Brown, a reporter with the New Hampshire Union Leader, tweeted that Laurent was recruited “primarily as a punter.”

If he pans out as a punter, Laurent will compete for Colter Johnson, who was one of the best punters in the MAC. If he works out better as a kicker, there will likely be a three-way competition between Laurent, Blake Lucas and Brendon Levengood. Lucas handled UMass’ limited placekicking duties last season, and Levengood was on kickoffs.
