Is it just me or does Noye not look 6’2″? Kid is a great runner, but he does not look that tall at all.

    1. Paul says:

I know the kid… I’m 6’2 and so is he

  2. Umike says:

I’m not trying to bring hoops into this but it looks like we might have to look into the MAC option in all sports with the catholic 7 taking Xavier butler slu and Dayton from the a10.

In regards to the comment on Delaire, he certainly was talented enough but I detected he had an attitude problem even when Morris was here. Got a lot of
personal fouls, maybe a bit undisicplined but very skillful. Just my observations
    from afar.

So Messiah was 220 to start the year, he had to of bulked up during the year… say 230ish? What will his weight be come September? Kid has the chance to be a beast on the edge, especially if he gets a little taller.

    1. Bob McGovern says:

Give me Messiah’s speed at 6’4, 245 pounds – oh lord.

      1. Umike says:

        …in only his sophomore year…

    2. SJGMoney says:

Another reason why Delaire decided to vamoose? Hand writing on the wall in regards to playing time?

      1. Bob McGovern says:

You know, I didn’t think of that – but there’s probably something to that. Damnit SJG$, if we had more than $.25 I’d have to get you on payroll.

      2. Joe says:

Ryan Delaire left the program because the coaching staff was constantly giving him a rash of shit over every little thing he did. Some of it warranted mostly it wasn’t though. He was one of the most happy go lucky people i have ever met and it was a shame he wont be with the program anymore.

ps. the above reason is also why he didn’t receive playing time this season it wasn’t a lack of skill.

        1. Bob McGovern says:

Definitely not a lack of skill – or else Towson, who is loading up with skilled linemen, wouldn’t have wasted their time. I can’t speak to the other stuff (See: “Rash of shit” and/or “Happy go lucky”), but I do hope he finds success at his new school.

        2. SJGMoney says:

Joe, that’s an interesting comment, any idea how he ended up in the dog house? Because he certainly didn’t start that way, at the
UMass club event last spring, which occurred after spring ball, Coach specifically mentioned Delaire as a player to watch to a bunch of us who were talking in a small group with him. Said he wasn’t ready to be an every down DE yet, needed to get bigger, but he was goign to be a hell of a situational pass rusher. Just wondering how that soured.

          1. Joe says:

From what i know, he talked back to the dline coach. After that he never had a shot at coming back. the new coaches mentality has been more favorable to their recruits and he was not one. the proof can be seen with the volume of players that have left who yes some might not have been able to cut it but a few ie: Christian Birt and Delaire could of/can compete on this level

          2. SJGMoney says:

Joe, thanks for the info. Make a lot of sense as Coach Solazzo would not be a guy I expect to take that kind of stuff. Especially as we are building from the ground floor up, an entire program from the ground floor up, no one player is more important than anybody else. Kevin Morris ran a very loose ship and we see where that got him and certain players. Coach stepped in and has tried to implement a new attitude but as the saying goes you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. I hope Delaire succeeds at Towson because I would hate to think he blew such a good opportunity at the U for nothing. If that occurs he will be a very disappointed 30 year old sitting around kicking himself. I wish him well as I did enjoy watching him play.

You sound like either you are a player -or have a lot of association with the team- to be giving this kind of information.

Seems that the coaches set expectations and most players have continued to work and are continuing to improve. As you mentioned -Others chose to mouth off to coaches (that will get you really far in the workplace or in your future) or did not do what is expected of a scholarship athlete either on or off the field and paid the consequences.

Too bad for those where the consequences hurt some and at least for me I hope they end up on their feet soon. At the same time it seems that if these players really think that as upperclassmen they can act this way and all will be well – - – - well it does not work that way.

As for you Joe – if you are on the team – I hope you appreciate the blog but at the same time this is not a good place for you to be posting and commenting. Just my opinion take it for what it is worth.

Bob, two questions unrelated to this post if you don’t mind.

First, what makes you think that we’ll be switching Kassan Messiah and Stanley Andre from the positions they played last year? Anything in particular that makes you think Messiah in more of a lineman?

Also, we still have 2013 scholarships to fill, if I’m not mistaken. Any news on what players Molnar is looking for with those last few?

    Thanks.

    1. Bob McGovern says:

Dave: Andre was being played out of position last year by virtue of McIntyre’s presence as a MLB. McIntyre couldn’t play anywhere else, while Andre could and did step in as a DE. It could be argued that UMass’ best MLB was playing DE last year due to roster issues.

Messiah, on the other hand, cannot cover tight ends or receivers from the OLB spot and he is not – by size, shape, or style – a MLB. He was also 6’4 and close to 220 pounds as a freshman. I assume the staff is going to try to add some weight to his frame. I would be VERY surprised to see Messiah playing LB after the staff went out and recruited a bunch of kids that can play that position.

Per the other two scholarships, I haven’t heard anything yet, but I assume that they are going to be looking at defensive linemen.

      1. Dave says:

Thanks, Bob, makes sense. I had heard the same about Andre (being the best MLB on the team last season).
