UMass is close to hiring Greg Burns as its defensive backs coach, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Burns has not yet signed a contract, but the two sides are closing in on an agreement. Burns will take over for Jeff Burris, who left UMass to serve as the assistant defensive backs coach/defensive quality control coach for the Miami Dolphins. According to multiple sources Jeff Burris, cornerbacks coach for the UMass football team, will leave the Minutemen for a job with the Miami Dolphins. Burris will take over as the assistant defensive backs coach/defensive quality control coach for Miami, according to a source. Ted Daisher, UMass’ safeties coach, will coach the entire secondary until the next coach is hired. “It was only a matter of time before something like this came up for (Burris),” a source said, on the condition of anonymity.
