MAC Media Day, From Afar

I approached the Maroon Musket Accounting Department with trepidation, if not dread. Inside, a mustachioed portly fella, complete with suspenders and woolen trousers told me to sit down as he explained the publication’s travel budget: “You can either go to Wisconsin, eat cheese and explore Madison, or you can go to Detroit and … yeah.” The choice was clear – the Mid-American Conference’s media day would have to wait. UMass Staff Lowest Paid in MAC

The University of Massachusetts football team has the lowest-paid coaching staff in the Mid-American Conference, according to The Star Press, a newspaper in Muncie, Ind. The publication looked into the contracts of all 13 MAC coaching staffs and published its results. Here are the stats dug up by Ben Brennier: Charley Molnar is tied with Buffalo’s Jeff Quinn for lowest-paid head coach in the league, with a base salary of $250,000. Quinn, however, has a higher salary/automatic stipend at $325,000 to Molnar’s $300,000. The combined salaries for UMass’ football staff comes out to $1,004,000, which is 13th in the league, […]

With the season a little more than a month away, it’s time to take out our dollar-store crystal ball and project the Mid-American Conference. The MAC looks poised to have another solid year, but with a lot of talent on top, there may not be an unblemished team with an easy shot at a BCS bowl.
