UMass Commit: Frank Carter

The UMass football team picked up a big commitment from the Sunshine State. Frank Carter, a 6’2, 320-pound offensive lineman from Hillsborough High School in the Tampa Bay area, verbally committed to UMass. The 2014 recruit tweeted about his commitment. Earl Garcia, Hillsborough’s legendary head coach, told the Maroon Musket that UMass got a steal with Carter and will have to keep recruiting him during the course of his senior year “because a bunch of big schools are going to get involved, but I’m glad for him because he saw the campus and is comfortable with the staff.” Garcia indicated […]

UMass Recruit: Coray Keel

It looks like UMass is looking for a wideout down in the Peach State. The Maroon Musket has learned that the Minutemen have extended an offer to Coray Keel, a 2014 wide receiver from Snellville, Ga. Keel is a 6’3, 190-pound athlete and has offers from all over, including Buffalo and Ohio in the MAC, and a few Big 10 programs. John Bond, UMass’ new offensive coordinator, has been working to open new recruiting pipelines down in Georgia since joining the staff. UMass Commit: Anthony Fernandez

The UMass football team has picked up a commitment from Anthony Fernandez, a 2013 offensive lineman who will join the program as a 2014 mid-year transfer, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. Effectively, Fernandez is a grey shirt recruit and will join the team in the spring semester. Also on campus will be Jason Smith, a defensive end from New Jersey who has also grey shirted. Both athletes will count against UMass’ 2014 scholarship allotment.
