Jeremy Horne Signs with Giants

New York Giants General Manager Jerry Reese seems to have a particular affinity for UMass football players. After drafting Minutemen running back Mike Cox and inviting safety Darren Thellen to minicamp, the Giants have signed former wideout Jeremy Horne to a one-year contract. The 2009 graduate tweeted about the deal: Horne has been on and off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad since 2010, and will provide some added depth to the Giants’ receiving corps. Darren Thellen Invited to Giants Minicamp

The University of Massachusetts continues to be a pipeline for the New York Giants. Darren Thellen, a former safety for the UMass football team, has been invited to Giants minicamp, according to multiple sources. The invitation comes on the heels of New York drafting Mike Cox in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. If both athletes make the team, they will play alongside UMass’ alumnus Victor Cruz, if he signs with the Giants. Via UMass Athletics’ John Sinnett: AMHERST, Mass. - With the 253rd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the New York Giants drafted UMass football running back Michael Cox in the seventh round of the three-day highlight of the NFL offseason. Cox becomes the first Minuteman selected in the draft since Vladimir Ducasse went in the 2nd round of the 2010 Draft. After earning his undergraduate degree from Michigan in the Spring of 2012, Cox transferred to UMass as a graduate student where he started all 12 games as the Minutemen’s top running back.
