Huskies Offer Holines

ESPN Boston’s Brendan Hall tweeted that UConn extended an offer to Sha’ki Holines, a UMass recruit that already gave a solid verbal to the Minutemen. Per @benlarsenwrites, UConn has offered Springfield Commerce LB and UMass commit Sha’ki Holines — Brendan Hall (@BHallESPN) July 22, 2012 Rivals confirms the offer. UMass is continuing to make its presence felt in the Sunshine State. The Minutemen extended an offer to Craig Mackey, a cornerback from Tallahassee, according to the athlete’s own tweet: https://twitter.com/#!/cmack12tldc/status/199644271119310849 There isn’t a lot of stuff out there about Mackey right now, but he does have an ESPN page, which lists him at 5’11 and 174 pounds. Mackey plays for the Big Bend 7-on-7 team, which is similar to Team Tampa – a squad UMass has recruited pretty hard this year. Big County Preps, a website I’ve basically bookmarked for UMass recruiting news, has a list of Tampa-area athletes holding Division I offers. On the list is a number of UMass proespects, including: Xavier Johnson, RB/DB Mike Love, DE Tremaine Batten, RB Nigel Harris, LB Shaquem Griffin, S Shaquill Griffin, CB Haiden Nagel, LB Check out the combined list of schools UMass is recruiting against: Vanderbilt, Purdue, Alabama Birmingham, South Florida, Western Kentucky, Akron, Louisville, FIU, Iowa State, Ohio, NC State and Mississippi State. Some big fish are starting to come after UMass recruits. Both Eric Carter and Maurice Hurst Jr., two recruits we have mentioned here before, have received either interest or offers from BCS programs. Carter, a talented wide receiver from Lakeland, Fl., tweeted that he was talking to Missouri and that they seemed “highly interested.” According to Rivals, Missouri is indeed showing interest, but only UMass and Cincinnatti have extended offers.
