UMass is continuing to make its presence felt in the Sunshine State. The Minutemen extended an offer to Craig Mackey, a cornerback from Tallahassee, according to the athlete’s own tweet: https://twitter.com/#!/cmack12tldc/status/199644271119310849 There isn’t a lot of stuff out there about Mackey right now, but he does have an ESPN page, which lists him at 5’11 and 174 pounds. Mackey plays for the Big Bend 7-on-7 team, which is similar to Team Tampa – a squad UMass has recruited pretty hard this year. A couple of Tampa-area recruits with UMass offers have piqued the interest of BCS schools. Joey Ivie, a recruit we have mentioned a number of times before, has picked up an offer from South Florida according to Big County Preps. The Tampa-based football recruiting source also has Ivie ranked as its No. 1 defensive lineman. Big County Preps also mentioned that Mike Love, a defensive tackle with UMass interest, has picked up an offer from West Virginia. – Chris Nee tweeted that Lemond Johnson visited Florida International and had a good time. Matt Burke, a Florida tight end with a UMass offer, has been contacted by San Diego State. Burke tweeted that he was talking to an Aztec coach. When you recruit in Florida, you have to be prepared to play with the big boys. UMass recruit Joey Ivie received offers from Texas Tech and Miami over the past two days, according to Matt Baker with the Tampa Bay Times. Ivie now holds offers from: UMass, Western Kentucky, Iowa State, FIU, Bowling Green, Purdue, Texas Tech and Miami. Rivals has a similar list. The Minutemen were the first school to offer the 6-foot-5, 265 pound defensive lineman. Ivie is a powerful presence on the line, and should keep his position at the next level if he can put on a little size. [...]
