UMass Announces Early Enrollees

UMass named the seven recruits who are on campus for the Spring Semester. We knew about most of them, but there are a couple of new faces on the list. The three scholarship earners are old news, and include: Sam Zeff; Cameron Mock; and Josh Bruns All three athletes are offensive linemen. Zeff is a 2013 recruit and will count toward the 25 scholarship allotment for this recruiting cycle. Mock is a 2012 recruit who missed last year via an undisclosed injury. Zeff, Crutchfield to Enroll Early

Sam Zeff and Nate Crutchfield, two Montclair High School football players who verbally committed to UMass, will graduate high school early and enroll in the university for the spring semester. Times Article Affecting Recruiting Efforts

A New York Times article chronicling the struggles of the University of Massachusetts’ football program has already had a negative affect on the program’s recruiting efforts, according to several sources with direct knowledge of the situation. The article, entitled “Big Dream, Rude Awakening,” is being used by other programs to dissuade student athletes from committing to UMass. It is unclear what schools are referencing the article, but one source indicated that certain “Northeast programs are specifically using it” now that UMass has “made significant improvements in recruiting.” Shane Huber, a linebacker that recently decommitted from UMass, cited the program’s “lack of stability” […]

UMass Commit: Sam Zeff

UMass picked up an offensive lineman with an impressive list of offers. Sam Zeff, an offensive lineman from New Jersey, has verbally committed to UMass, according to XOFan. Brian Dohn from Scout confirmed on Twitter. Earlier this week, it was reported that Zeff was visiting Amherst today with his parents. Zeff held offers from UConn, Rutgers, Temple, Tulane and Yale, according to Rivals. The 6’5, 277-pound lineman is a two-star recruit. Check out his highlights here.
