UMass Recruiting: News and Notes

As Signing Day draws near, there is no shortage of recruiting news. UMass is no longer pursuing Brandon Peoples, a running back from from Warminster, Pa. who verbally committed last month, according to a source with knowledge of the recruiting process. Peoples had originally committed to Temple and then decommitted shortly after Steve Addazio left the school for Boston College. With Peoples no longer in the picture, UMass has one scholarship running back committed in the 2013 class - Daquan Mack. It sounds like Charley Molnar and Roderick Plummer paid Mack a visit: Speaking of commits, the Maroon Musket has learned that several athletes who […]

UMass Re-Commit: Shane Huber

Many UMass fans were already upset with the recent coverage of the team, and […]

Times Article Affecting Recruiting Efforts

A New York Times article chronicling the struggles of the University of Massachusetts’ football program has already had a negative affect on the program’s recruiting efforts, according to several sources with direct knowledge of the situation. The article, entitled “Big Dream, Rude Awakening,” is being used by other programs to dissuade student athletes from committing to UMass. It is unclear what schools are referencing the article, but one source indicated that certain “Northeast programs are specifically using it” now that UMass has “made significant improvements in recruiting.” Shane Huber, a linebacker that recently decommitted from UMass, cited the program’s “lack of stability” […]
