Steven Casali

Steve Casali: A Great Unknown

“Downhill.” It’s a word that football coaches across America use to describe an aggressive style of running. It’s a prompt to rush forward as if the edge of the world has fallen off, and all that remains is the absence of gravity, a lowered shoulder and the soft cushion of a crumbling opponent. “Downhill” is the only way UMass commit Steve Casali knows how to run. With an almost-mechanical stride, the Sachem East product has made a career out of barreling over Long Island football players. As a running back, he frequently stormed past linebackers en route to a mismatched collision with […]

2013 Commits: Casali, Holines

The UMass football team added some power to its 2013 recruiting class this past weekend. The Minutemen received verbal commitments from Steven Casali, a grinding running back from New York, and Sha-ki Holines, a linebacker from Springfield Commerce. Casali announced the commitment on Twitter: Committed to #UMASS where I’ll be playing at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots!! #pumped #sohappy!!!! — Steven Casali (@SteveCasali5) June 24, 2012 We have been high on Casali from the start. Garrett Dolly, a middle linebacker from Cumberland, Md., has received interest from UMass, and so far it looks like the Minutemen are on the top of his list. Dolly took time to speak with XOFan’s Matt Alkire and said Coach Molnar and his staff are doing a tremendous job selling the program. I really […]

2013 Recruiting Update: News and Notes

A number of UMass recruits have been tweeting about other schools either showing interest or making offers. First, Vidal Woodruff, a dual-threat quarterback we have mentioned here before, tweeted that he is visiting Florida International this weekend for Junior Day. He added that FIU is his “top school.” As far as we know, no one has offered Woodruff yet. Here is his tweet:!/VWoodruff2/status/188598414924193792 Woodruff won’t be the only UMass recruit at FIU. Shug Oyegunle, another target, also tweeted that he will be there.!/iShuggiee/status/188071797487435776 – Devonte Hughes, a linebacker from Indiana, mentioned that he enjoyed his visits to UMass, Boston […]
